Leadership Safeguarding Strategy
NSTN works with partner agencies to consolidate a clear and proportionate Prevent strategy for their educational environment.
Prevent sits inside safeguarding rather than alongside it, and that is where most settings struggle. A strategy that exists as a policy document but not as shared practice leaves staff unsure when a concern is a Prevent concern, and leaves leaders carrying a statutory duty they cannot evidence.
Proportionality is the difficult part. Referring too readily damages trust with families and communities and buries the cases that need attention. Referring too rarely leaves a young person without support at the point where support would still work. Getting that judgement consistent across a whole staff body is a leadership question before it is a training one.
We work with senior leaders and designated safeguarding leads so that the strategy is recognised by the people who have to deliver it, and Prevent responsibilities are understood in the same terms as the rest of the safeguarding framework.
