What cookies are
A cookie is a small file a website stores on your device so it can recognise your browser later. Some are set by the website you are visiting, some by other companies whose services run on its pages.
Local storage and session storage are two other ways a website can keep information on your device. They are not called cookies, but we treat them the same way here, because they do the same job and the same rules apply to them.
How we use them
We use two cookies. One is ours, and all it does is remember the choice you make about the other, which belongs to Google. We do not use cookies for advertising, we do not use analytics, and we do not track you across other websites.
Nothing is stored on your device until you have chosen. The banner on your first visit asks before anything runs, you can say no as easily as yes, and you can change your mind at any time.
The cookies this site uses
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts | Needs your consent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| nstn_cookie_consent | NSTN | Remembers whether you accepted or declined, so the banner does not have to ask again on every page | 6 months | No, it is strictly necessary |
| _GRECAPTCHA | Runs reCAPTCHA, which tells the difference between a real person and an automated script, so that our forms are not filled in by spam software | About 6 months | Yes |
That is the whole list. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no social media cookies on this site. There is no tag manager, no embedded video, no map and no chat widget.
We do not store anything in your browser's local storage or session storage either. Both are empty.
What happens if you say no
Our forms stop working. Every form on this website relies on reCAPTCHA to check that a real person is sending it, so if you decline, a form will show an error and will not send.
We would rather tell you that plainly than let you find out after typing a message. If you do not want to accept the reCAPTCHA cookie, email us at [email protected] instead. That reaches the same inbox the forms deliver to, so nothing is lost by using it.
If you decline, we still store the one cookie that records your decision. Without it the banner would have no way of knowing you had already said no, and it would ask you again on every page.
You can read every page on this website without accepting anything.
Google reCAPTCHA
Our forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA version 3, the invisible one, so there is no checkbox to tick and no puzzle to solve. It collects technical information about your device and about how you interact with the page. Because your browser connects to Google directly, Google will also see your IP address as part of that connection.
Once you have accepted, this happens whenever a page carrying a form loads, not only when you send one. Before you accept, reCAPTCHA does not load at all.
Our own website does not store your IP address and does not send it to Google. Google handles what it collects as a controller in its own right, under the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Terms of Service.
Fonts and hosting
Our fonts are stored on our own website rather than loaded from another company, so your browser does not contact a font provider when you visit.
Our website is hosted on Amazon Web Services in the London region. The hosting sets no cookies of its own.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page.
You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings, though blocking all of them stops parts of most websites working. Clearing your cookies clears your choice as well, so the banner will appear again on your next visit.
